Suicide Prevention & Awareness

Hard Hat Courage equips family and friends with concrete tools — conversation prompts, warning signs to watch for, and clear next steps — so you can act early and safely when someone you love is struggling. You don't need clinical training. You need to know what to look for and what to say next, and this program walks you through both with straightforward, accessible language.

  • 988 Stickers: Placing a 988 sticker somewhere visible — on the fridge, in a wallet, on a cooler, saved in a phone — is a small act that keeps crisis support within reach when it’s needed most. Download the sticker design file and order some stickers for your loved ones and friends who work in the construction industry.

After a Suicide

Hard Hat Courage connects family members and friends with survivor resources and peer support. You are not alone in this, and help is available.

  • Healing Conversations: Personal Support for Survivors of Suicide Loss: When suicide impacts an individual, many people find it helpful to connect with someone who has also experienced a similar loss. The Healing Conversations program is designed to provide that support.

  • Surviving a Suicide Loss: Resource and Healing Guide: Our Resource and Healing Guide that provides information about coping with loss, the survivor loss community, and resources to help with your journey. (English) (Spanish)

  • Find a Support Group: For many people, attending a support group with other suicide loss survivors can be a helpful part of their healing journey. While AFSP does not run, recommend, endorse, or fund any of the groups listed, we do offer a comprehensive list of support groups.
